Counting
Dos said, counting is an underrated activity in Western culture. There are no celebrity counters who dazzle and amaze spectators with counting abilities. Yet, counting is at the very heart of the culture. Western culture claims the personal computer as one of its greatest achievements and even use terms of admiration of it like, what a great number cruncher it is.
There have been many different means and machines down through the ages to improve the accuracy and ability to count. In fact, counting is recognized as possibly the beginning of civilisation. Counting would have been going on well before then, it is simply there are no records of it. Well, maybe there are and they simply have not been recognized.
Accountants count for financial reasons and musicians count for timing. Both reasons are about order, but that is about it.
