                                            Common Era

Dos said, Western culture has some serious short comings. The extensive use of slave labour through its history has been one of the many conveniently forgotten historical aspects. However, there have been some good aspects as well. In my opinion, one of the good contributions is Common Era.

At the peak of the ancient Roman Empire, the seasons were not in line with the actual weather. It was apparent the calendar was no longer valid. When Julius Caesar reined over the Empire, Persian astronomers were engaged to determine what the problem was.
These Iranian astronomers determined that every year, six hours are gained. They recommended to the Romans that, to resolve this, every four years, there should be an extra day added, thus, the leap year.
The Romans adopted this recommendation and named the months on the new calendar after the leaders and their close associates. The new calendar or Common Era has been accepted ever since.
