                                       Righteous Existence

Dos said, I cannot explain what I am about to say or why I wish to say it. Last night it occurred to me that the normal state of mind for all citizens is, madness. The average citizen spends most of their conscious effort attempting to regulate this madness so that they adhere to culturally accepted standards, rules and regulations.

Those citizens who fail to regulate their conscious perception are deemed to be mad, undesirable or criminal.

Dollcee asked, how would you rate us as self-conscious regulators, Dos?

Dos responded, I cannot answer your question Dollcee, as I have only had this thought and been able to manage to articulate it to one other citizen and that is, you.

Cybo had a light bulb moment; I believe that you are onto something Dos. However, I doubt that it is an original thought. I believe it is another way of stating something that was very popular in the period when the religions dominated the citizen’s existence. The Religions claimed that all citizens were essentially evil and that the Religion would enable them to overcome this behaviour and have a righteous existence.

Dollcee asked, do you think that the mental hygiene industry has replaced the religions.

Cybo said, there is no doubt that the Nation State now has more cultural guiding suggestions for citizens than the religions did in the past. Even though the Nation State does appear to act more like a blob of thought mush most of the time.
However, there is a huge amount of pressure in this system for the citizens to bear full responsibility for their behaviour. If they do not meet these high expectations, then, they are cultural failures or mad.

Dollcee said, instead of a simple visit to the church on Sunday for a quick check up and redemption, the average citizens now have to self-regulate on a constant basis, even when they believe they are asleep.

Cybo said, under the current system of mental hygiene, the average citizens exist with huge expectations for exceptionally good behaviour at all times.

Dos said, because the Nation State uses fines to regulate behaviour, the less well-off citizens would be relatively madder than the wealthy citizens.

Padoke said, it is fortunate for the occupants of this little room in the universe, that they are so ignorant that they cannot fathom what their expectations are.
