Pretending
Dollcee said, I feel sorry for actors, because they have to spend so much of their time pretending to be something they are not. Like, we worry about an audience causing us so many problems. Actors could have serious misgivings about the character they have to portray and then, an audience could absolutely hate them for being that character.
Dos said, I had never thought about that. I wonder how they cope with having bad feelings about their character, while being that character?
Dollcee said, at least we really enjoy what we do and we don’t have be too concerned about audience reaction, because we don’t have an audience.
Cybo always seemed to have at least one ear switched on, even when he appeared to be asleep. Cybo said, I don’t believe pretending to be someone you are not is unique to actors. It is my suspicion, based on mere supposition on my behalf, that it is common behaviour.
Dollcee could not grasp what Cybo had said and continued to look at him in silence, till he explained further.
Cybo continued, learning is often imitating or copying. That is a form of pretending to be able to do something. Entertainment is pretending something and the message is recognized through cultural acceptance, whether it is words, image or music. I will go as far as claiming we are all actors and every citizen that partakes in everything and whatever is an actor. We are all characters.
Dollcee said, ah, now I understand where you are coming from and you are most likely correct Cybo. I don’t think I will start feeling sorry for myself though.
Dos said, I like the idea of seeing myself as an actor. I could exist in denial all the time. Instead of taking any responsibility for my behaviour, I could simply claim, oh that was not really me, I was forced to play that part because of the circumstances that I was drawn into. This fits into the culture very well.
Padoke said, it certainly does.
