The absent editor
Dollcee enquired, have you noticed the absence of the editor lately?
Dos said, no, I don’t take much notice of him. I suppose the editor has to do other things as well as interfere in our conversations.
Dollcee said, there are many benefits to being a character having conversations about culture and how culture is language. Take away the language and like a puff of smoke, the culture is gone. It is much more interesting having conversations about how machine language will change the language and subsequently, the culture. I would not like to be a slave character performing some menial job in retail or a factory.
Dollcee went on, I really enjoy being a drummer in a band. Even though my character cannot normally say it, I know I am reasonably good at drumming. The fact is, my character is very well behaved for a drummer in a band. I don’t have any tattoos or use profane language. I generally like citizens, especially ordinary ones like myself.
Dos asked, how do you know you are good when we do not have a publicist?
Dollcee said, I can get into a groove easily and sometimes, that groove can really cook. It is all about the feel, you know that Dos.
Dos said, it is very satisfying to be able to play with a relaxed feel. I suppose it is confidence. The best part of my musician character is, I am allowed to practice a lot and as far as I am concerned; practice is the best part of being a musician.
Dollcee asked, do you think we will ever be developed beyond being young neighbourhood kidz with little idea about almost everything?
Dos said, I hope we are never developed beyond being naïve young musicians. The culture promotes its self as heaven on earth for young hopefuls who are prepared to put in the effort and be totally committed idiots. We are absolute role models for all aspiring youth. We are competent musicians who are actively involved with all forms of media and there are no huge costs for maintaining celebrity status with us.
Dos went on, imagine all the problems if we were developed. There would have to frictions to keep the audience interested and complex explanations as to why we haven’t developed intellectually. It would be all far too much trouble to develop our characters. I think that is why super stars have to sign contracts to die young, in case they start to develop a more matured outlook about things.
Dollcee said, I am really glad that being a cultural character is only language and every problem can be resolved with conversation. I can’t even imagine how hard it would be to be a real citizen. Imagine, one big night on the drink and all the neurons in your gut start going haywire and the next thing you are in serious trouble for the rest of your existence. For us, it is a simple case of highlight the passage, delete, re-write and all is well and no hangover.
Maybe that is what has happened to the editor, being real has been too much for him and he has lost the plot and gone crazy.
Dos said, I found this odd saying on the line, ‘while the cat is away, the mice will play’. Let’s get on with it Dollcee.
