Randomedia
The volume on Padoke’s television was so low, only he could hear it. The constant flashing pixels were meaningless, so no one took much notice of the television.
Cybo would ask a rhetorical question sometimes, like, I wonder if it is only dogs that watch television. No citizens ever seem to bother watching television.
Dollcee often asked rhetorical questions, like; do you believe that the nature of the universe is based on random activity, because you wish to avoid all responsibility?
Dos responded automatically, there are some that will believe that. They hide behind belief of the random nature of the universe, using it as an excuse, a type of, get out of jail card.
Dollcee was
off again, do you think that adopting random activity can cause a defeatist attitude, leaving some citizens to give up trying to do anything?
Dos said, there will be some citizens who will give up at the first sign of any resistance, maybe a capacitor could be wired into their circuitry to help with a small charge to overcome this resistance.
Dollcee said, okay then, do you think that we are wired up for survival, by taking the nature of the universe’s random activity into account?
Cybo thought, I wonder if I have a capacitor wired into my neural network.
Dos replied, it is a numbers game and it is all about how and where you are perceiving it from. Like the universe, it is all in a constant state of flux. Because our existence spans are relatively short, we have long enough to react to many things happening around us and this extends our existence.
Dollcee said, with the advantage of relativity, it is a pity that different cultures don’t exploit this to reduce inter-cultural conflict and exist in a more harmonious world.
Cybo said, sadly cultural groups can only recognize what is obvious to their leaders and that is other cultural groups. They exploit minor differences between cultures to consolidate their own position. Their very desire to be a leader of mankind is a clear indication of their short comings.
Citizens could adopt a species approach, now knowing the relative size of the planet has been reduced to being even smaller than ever in the history of citizens. This is a result of the absolute growth in numbers of citizens and the ability for them to move about in large numbers easily. That is not even considering the communications systems that are available. The world was much bigger when donkeys were important to transport. If aeroplanes were banned, the planet
would get relatively bigger once again.
After saying all that, Cybo went on, the universe is so gi-normously-big-huge-meta-mungous and still the tiny-wincey-little-wibbley-wobbly citizens do not understand how insignificant they are relative to everything.
Dollcee asked no one in particular, do you think the universe, besides being based on tiny energy pulses is also an algorithm?
Cybo said, why not, we need language to communicate, so, the universe is tiny pulses of energy formed into everything by an algorithm.
Dollcee said, I think anything that is so important, should have a name.
Padoke turn away from the television and looked towards the gathered and said, what about Randomedia.
Dollcee said, perfect Padoke, I guess you would pronounce it Ran-do-media. It has a sort of maternal feel to it as well.
That’s it, said Dos and Cybo, Randomedia. The universe finally has a more personal name.
