Dollcee asked the space around her, do you believe that conversations for the sake of chatting are a good thing?
The space within Dollcee’s voice projection was occupied by Dos and he was holding his device at a distance that matched his focal length for reading the text size, set on the device. Dos was not totally absorbed in whatever he was reading on his device, because in a vague sort of tone, he said, chatting; what is chatting?
Dollcee said, I am chatting with you Dos. At least, I thought I was chatting with you.
Dos apologized by saying, sorry Dollcee, I was reading an article by a professor who claims he is isolated in the institution he believes he belongs to. He sounds like he is a slave, when he writes that he belongs to an institution.
Dollcee was not going to be distracted by the isolated professor who might be a slave and said, I believe chatting is essential to maintain a well-balanced social and cultural existence. If a citizen does not engage in regular chatting, they could feel isolated and without purpose.
Dos said, that may be our problem, instead of communicating with a lot of citizens, we want to be selective with who we communicate with.
Dollcee asked, are you suggesting we are elitist, snobs, Dos?
Not at all, replied Dos. I think we are overly cautious about commitment.
Dollcee said, I want to avoid being dragged into circumstances that turn out to be entrapment. A lot of things sound all well and good from the outside, then, once you make a commitment, ka-plop, you are done for, drowning in commitments, enslaved to a nightmare that you thought was a dream when you signed up.
The popular culture projects the message that only nutters are constrained in straight jackets. Or, is it the case, the culturally successful are nutters constrained by their careers.
Dos said, I wonder if it is possible to be deemed a complete and utter nutter by the broader culture and be totally at peace and happy within yourself.
Dollcee looked at Dos with a considered expression and eventually said, why not, I suppose it is possible.
